The Embakasi East MP was forced to retake his oath after a dramatic scene when taking his oath at the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.
He decided to add some pizazz in his oath by adding the name of NASA principal Raila Odinga and his slogan ‘Tibim’ to the oath.
“I, Babu Owino, having been elected a Member of Parliament do swear in the name of the Almighty God that I would bear true faith and allegiance to the people of the Republic of Kenya and Raila Amollo Odinga.” He said sending Parliament into fits of laughter.
“That he forgot. ” Babu said amid the laughter.
A situation which forced the clerk of the National Assembly Michael Sialai Rotich to ask him to retake his oath in a proper manner.
“Just hold on, the Constitution says that it (the oath) should be taken in the form that it is prescribed. I am asking you to start again and this time in the proper manner. ” Sialai said.
“I, Babu Owino, having been elected a Member of Parliament do swear in the name of Almighty God that I would bear true faith and allegiance to the people of the Republic of Kenya that I will obey, respect uphold, preserve, protect and defend this Constitution of the Republic of Kenya and that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge the duties of a Member of Parliament, so help me God. Thank you. Tibim!” He said.
