Mugai Village in Kakamega County was abuzz when two siblings decided to take the bizarre decision to get married and be joined in holy matrimony.

Fred Makokha and Rebecca Makokha were subjected to a cleansing ceremony in order to avoid a generation curse which elders had opined was imminent.

The errant couple was given the dose of punishment in form of ten strokes of the cane which was done in the full glare of their fellow villagers.

Villagers who were shocked at the unprecedented union were supportive of the steps taken by the elders in order to deter such behavior.

“If the two are left alone to live as man and wife, they will never be able to raise a family. All their children would keep dying,” one of the village elders said.

Cleansing

The cleansing also involved a bull being slaughtered and the intestinal components smeared on the victims to wade off a potential curse, during the ceremony that was only attended by men.

The two offenders, who had their hands tied together, were not required to utter a single word throughout the entire proceeding.
