More trouble for ODM MP after demanding salary increase

The legislator was unapologetic over her remarks demanding for a salary increment.

ODM Woman Representative Gladys Wanga is in trouble after Homa Bay residents threatened to sign petitions seeking to unseat the legislator over her remarks seeking to increase MP salaries.

Wanga who is a member of PSC, accused the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) of embarking on a mission to drastically reduce MPs’ pay and allowances without having carried out a job evaluation exercise as required by the Constitution.

The Woman-rep on Friday still insisted that SRC’s decision to cut MPs pay and allowances was wrong.

Her statements have angered locals with the Homa Bay County Youth Bunge threatening to lead residents of the county to sign petitions seeking to unseat the legislator.

According to the Nation, a statement signed by their chairperson Chrispory Juma, stated that the country is currently grappling with very high cost of living, and it is extremely insensitive and embarrassing for Ms Wanga to appear to put greed before public interest.

“We are utterly dismayed and saddened by the reckless statements attributed to our Woman Representative Gladys Wanga admonishing the SRC over plans to slash MP’s salaries in efforts to reduce our nation’s wage bill,” the statement read in part.

The county residents are now demanding an apology from Ms Wanga, terming her as an embarrassment to the county.

“She must follow the Kiambu woman representative action of apologising to residents of Kiambu County and Kenyans or we shall seek legal means to recall he,” said Mr Juma.

Kiambu Woman representative-elect Gathoni wa Muchomba was this week forced to apologise to her constituents after she disowned the SRC salary cut for lawmakers.
