According to a 2014 report by America’s National Safety Council, the bathroom is the most dangerous room in the house.
Findings of the report showed that at least one person dies every day in their bathroom.
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicated that falls in the bathroom are the leading cause of injury and death in adults who are 65 years old and above.
This could be attributed to the fact that older people may be suffering from poor vision or diseases such as arthritis which could increase bathroom accidents.
How the bathroom is dangerous
The bathroom floors tend to become slippery after a shower or a bath which makes it easy for people to slide and fall.
Soaps can also build up and cause slippery surfaces that could cause falls.
People aged between 15 and 24 were found to most likely get injured near a bathtub or the shower while those that are 85 and older got injured near the toilet.
In addition to that there are protruding taps, knobs and hard surfaces that prove hazardous to people if they slip and fall. They could hit their heads on those surfaces and that could lead to serious head injuries such as concussions.
You can do this by getting anti-plastic mats that are designed to prevent falls in the bathroom.
All in all, it is important to take extra caution when using the bathroom.
