If you been trying to conceive for the last few months without success, there is probably something that you are not doing right.

See, conceiving is not always so easy for some people and if you are one of them, you need to make some effort. And making effort is not just about being extra active in the bedroom. It’s about doing the things that increase your chance of conception and avoiding those that could prevent you from becoming pregnant.

In this article, we enlighten you on some of the things you should avoid doing if you are trying to get pregnant.

1. Quit smoking

Sorry to announce but you shouldn’t wait until you are pregnant for you to quit smoking. Smoking not only leads to birth defects but it also lowers your chances of getting pregnant. Smoking also affects the Fallopian tubes and the cervix resulting in miscarriages. And hey, your partner should quit smoking too. Studies have it that men who smoked had a lower sperm count.

2. Being overweight or underweight

Being underweight is as dangerous as being overweight when it comes to conception. If your BMI is less than 18.5, you are considered underweight and it could hinder ovulation meaning you won’t be able to get pregnant. The same thing applies when you have a BMI of above 30. Ensure you are not in these extremes when trying to get pregnant.

3. Overdo exercise

Whether you are trying to lose weight or simply keep fit, do not overdo exercise. Too much exercise could affect your hormones hence reducing your odds of getting pregnant.

4. Waiting to get pregnant to quit smoking

If you are trying to get pregnant, then you had better quit drinking as early as now. And this should be for both of you as well. Just like smoking, alcohol lowers your chances of making babies. It affects your hormones and could also lead to erectile dysfunction in men.

5. Stressing too much

Last but definitely most important, do not over-stress. You could be eating the right foods, having sex severally but if you are too stressed, it’s going to be hard for you to get pregnant. If you are having trouble managing your stress, talk to a doctor to help you out. The more you are stressed, the longer it will take to conceive spiking up your stress levels.
