A look back at Winnie Mandela's most iconic turban looks

She was the queen of rocking turbans

South Africans are mourning the loss of Winnie Mandela.

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed on on Monday, 2nd April at the age of 81 in hospital after a long battle with an illness.

The activist and second wife to Nelson Mandela was at the fore front of the anti-apartheid movement. Winnie Mandela will not only be remembered as an iron lady, but also for her eclectic style that was simply outstanding.

Winnie sure did love to rock turbans and she pulled off the look with so much grace like the royal she was. As you know, turbans date back to colonial times during slavery where women would wear them to resist loss of self definition, of course, among other reasons such as cultural, religious and environmental reasons such as protecting the hair from dust.
