The research shows that standing rather than sitting can counter that and reduces risk of weight gain from inactivity.

46 studies were reviewed that had 1,184 participants who were an average of 33 years old, an average body mass index of 24 and average weight of 65 kg.

Standing burns more calories than sitting and the muscles involved in standing was directly linked to reducing risk of heart attacks, stroke and diabetes.

If you way around 65 kg, standing for 6 hours a day would have you burning 54 calories a day.

Weight loss rate of standing is 0.15 calories per minute.

In a year, you would lose 2.5 kg from standing for 6 hours a day.,

"Overall, our study shows that, when you put all the available scientific evidence together, standing accounts for more calories burned than sitting,” says Farzane Saeidifard, M.D., first author and cardiology fellow at Mayo Clinic.

It's worth it to note that the researchers found that calories burned between standing and sitting is about twice as high in men as in women.

This is due to the effect of greater muscle mass in men on the amount of calories burned.
