When he first joined politics he looked misplaced when seated next to high-profile personalities donned in suits during important meetings.

In 2014, the flamboyant senator shocked President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and other leaders when he appeared for an official gathering rocking rugged pants, sunglasses, and a haircut inscribed his name – Sonko.

Photos went viral on social media as President Kenyatta inspected the ‘torn trousers’.

Despite his dramatic stunts which have marred his political life prompting numerous Kenyans in the middle and upper class have a low opinion of him, Mr. Sonko has remained popular to his fans at the grassroots level.

This was evident with the number of votes he garnered during the Jubilee nomination exercise, beating his competitor Peter Kenneth hands down.

However, appearing on Citizen TV’s popular show Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) on Wednesday night, Mr. Sonko announced that he had rebranded.

He was draped in a well-fitting suit and a clean haircut, a look that left social media awash with comments.

“This is my look now as the next CEO of Nairobi County,”  he said.

Sonko will be battling it out with incumbent Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, who previosuly served as a CEO at Mumias Sugar Company.

Kidero’s outlook is more serious and according to image consultants, this is crucial when handling important businesses and meeting high profile personalities.

Speaking during an interview, Susan Maina, a managing Director at Image lt Limited, divulged that: “Usually boosting your physical image helps to make a great first impression, so be keen on personal style, what you wear and how you groom yourself. What you say and how you say it —body language and behaviour — determines whether or not you portray a positive image”.

“If you want to be successful as a person, or as a business enterprise, then you shouldn’t leave your first impression to chance,” she advised.
