This S.A designer makes stunning clothes for plus-sized African women

Big is bold and beautiful

For the longest time, plus-sized women had been marginalized when it comes to all things fashion.

Till recently, we were not used to seeing thick models and neither could thick women find clothes in their size. But all that is changing. Body positivity is a big thing right now, thanks to body positivity movements and campaigns as well as fashion designers who are now catering to the needs to a woman who wants to flaunt her curves.

One such designer is South Africa's Mamello Mosase whose fashion brand, Mobu by Melo was created solely to celebrate the black woman.

"Mobu by Melo is created for the kind of woman who waits for validation from no one. It's for the resilient, defiant and beautiful woman. The woman who gets what she wants no matter what"-She tells Elle Magazine SA.

Mamello works with two other people and sources all fabric from all of South Africa. Her designs are in carefully selected African print with a modern twist. The 26 year old designer makes clothes that not only flatter and give shape to plus-sized women, but also boost their confidence and self esteem.

Her last collection, Seilatsatsi comprised of different African print dresses, with different designs ranging from cold shoulders, sweetheart necklines, lace to ruffles. The collection was modeled by beautiful plus-sized women and the photo series was nothing short of perfection.

Have a look.
