Kumbe he's not uptight? KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua

The Riverwoods Academy Awards was all about the glitz and glam. Artistes showed up for the red carpet in fashion statement ensembles inappropriate dressing. But when approached with the question by Carolina Carlz, the champion of all things moral was quick to say and with a laugh in his voice, “ This is free; this is the only night that the moral police has allowed people to relax, be themselves and enjoy themselves… with limits of course.”

Sigh* Well, you can’t change stripes in a day and one could only wish, but could this be the beginning of a more lax relationship between Kenya Film Classification Board and the acting industry?

Noticeably, KFCB has taken a great interest to the Riverwoods Academy Awards, a brain child of the Riverwood Filmmakers Ensemble Association. For this year’s awards, KFCB increased her sponsorship for the event to Ksh2.5Million.

Speaking on a pre-recorded set, the KFCB head of broadcast division Emma Irungu stated that KFCB’s association with the Riverwoods Academy Awards is one of a strategic nature to grow the film industry. “… To encourage the compliance, have their work classified and obtain the requisites and licenses needed when they do their production. This ensures that all the content that goes to the public is in line with the classification requirements that have been set by the laws of these country.”

On a lighter note, Ezekiel Mutua was super excited over the growth of the film industry. In an exclusive interview with he said, “Tonight I look forward to see artistes enjoy themselves, to see us celebrating each other and celebrating the creativity of our people and the beat of the film. Riverwood Ensemble is our cultural identity in terms of film and we want to use film to tell the story of Kenya."
