The Rock Just Made an Impassioned Plea for Leadership on Social Media
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson just shared a somber, moving speech on IGTV in which he expressed his anger and frustration at the use of military force against peaceful Black Lives Matter protestors. In the video, which lasts more than 8 minutes, he demanded to know, repeatedly: "Where is our compassionate leader?"
The Rock Makes an Impassioned Plea for Leadership
"It's that same compassionate leader who has to come back and readdress the country," he continued. "Of course all lives matter, every single one... we, as Americans, believe in inclusivity and acceptance and human rights and equality for all. So of course all lives matter, but in this moment right now, in this defining, pivotal, explosive moment where the floorboards of our country are becoming unhinged in this moment, we must say the words: black lives matter."
It's the second passionate statement Johnson has made on social media this week, after writing a lengthy Instagram post calling for the need to "normalize equality" following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

In his most recent video, Johnson thanked other countries all around the world for their "beautiful, incredible, inspiring displays of solidarity," and a number of commenters praised his speech for its statesmanlike nature, even encouraging him to get more officially involved in politics. And they're not the first people to suggest that The Rock run for president . Johnson, however, stressed the need for everybody to get involved.
"I am like the majority of Americans. I'm not a politician, and I've never, clearly, been elected to office, and I am not the President of the United States," he said. "But I am a man and I am a father who cares so deeply about my family, my children, and the world they will live in. I care so deeply about our country and every single person in it. I am a man who is frustrated and disappointed. I am angry. But I am also doing my best to stay focused, and as calm as I possibly can be, to make the best decisions for my family and make the best decisions for our country."
"So as we continue to wait for that leader to emerge, I would recommend to all of you, that we must become the leaders we're looking for. Because we're doing it now. I'll ask it one more time: where are you? Where is that compassionate leader who steps up and takes accountability for his country and all the people in our country? Because I tell you what, we're all here. And the process to change has already begun, you can feel it... Change is happening. It's going to take time, we're going to get beat up, we're going to take our lumps, it's going to be bloody. But the process of change has already begun."
