What to consider before starting a work-from-home life

Working from home has its added benefits but it leaves a lot be to be considered.

Understandably working on your own schedule and saving money on trips to the office sounds like a dream come true for some.

But there are a few things to be said before you start a life of telecommuting.

1. Designate an office space

Carving out space for your work will help you maintain maximum efficiency. It doesn't have to be a full scale office. It can be an area you set aside for working such that when you're at that spot- it's time to work.

2. Set boundaries for work and home

Try establishing a proper work-life balance.

Your family shouldn't be allowed to interrupt you while you're working unless there is a dire emergency.

3. Ensure you are well connected

Working from home will require extra communication equipment such as a wifi router, a webcam etc. Some of these gadgets will come preinstalled in your personal computer but in the event that you have to have them installed after purchase, ensure you get everything you need so as to make sure you don't fall behind on your work.

Always have contingency plans in case of a power blackout, such as a restaurant you can work from.

4. Try to avoid distractions

Working from home is tough due to endless distractions. It could be your child, your partner, domestic staff issues, the fridge, the oven, the kitchen, the TV, even using the internet without supervision. Ensure that you have enough discipline to make sure you complete your tasks before going on a break to indulge yourself.
