Githeriman tops list of celebrities at Sonko's swearing-in

Kimotho who is a Nairobi County worker was among those invited at the ceremony.

Martin Kimotho popularly known as Githeriman topped the lists of celebrities invited for the swearing in of new Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko at Uhuru Park on Monday.

Kimotho who is also a Nairobi County worker, was spotted at the main dais during the ceremony which saw top notch celebrities such Ben Githae, Sauti Sol, Bahati, Jemimah Thiong’o, Esther Wahome, Rose Muhando and Rufftone.

Others present at the ceremony included President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and the immediate former Governor Evans Kidero who congratulated Sonko and wished him all the best at the helm of Nairobi County.

Kimotho's star has been steadily rising ever since a picture of him enjoying his "snack" of githeri while queueing to vote during the August 8 elections went viral.

Little did he know the photo went viral making him an overnight celebrity and the most talked about persons after Kenyans made hundreds of memes of his photo eating githeri photo-shopped with other pictures of celebrities, presidents, musicians and many more other people.

To enable him manage all the publicity, fame and his new-found celebrity status, Kimotho has now acquired a team which includes a manager and lawyer with showbiz promoter acting Chris Kirwa acting as his agent.

Some of the corporates who have endorsed Kimotho and rode on his publicity include: Bonfire Adventures, UserName, Big Square Kenya, designer NaneuLeshan, Safaricom and Maisha Flour Meals.
