Kenya Power announces major power outage

Kenya Power and Lighting Company PLC (Kenya Power) on Friday announced a major power outage which would affect the Western Region.

In a statement to newsrooms, the electricity distributor explained that it would switch off the power in the region as "stringing works" are conducted on the line.

"Kenya Power will switch off electricity supply on the 132kV double circuit Lessos-Lanet transmission line to allow stringing works on the new 220kV transmission line that is meant to improve power supply to Western Kenya.

"The interruption will occur on Saturday 27th March 2021 and Sunday 28th March 2021 between 7:00am and 5:00pm on both days," the statement read in part.

It further listed counties which will be affect as follows:-

  1. Kakamega
  2. Kisumu
  3. Busia
  4. Bungoma
  5. Vihiga
  6. Siaya
  7. Homa Bay
  8. Migori
  9. Kisii
  10. Nyamira
  11. Bomet
  12. Kericho
  13. Elgeyo Marakwet
  14. Uasin Gishu
  15. Trans Nzoia
  16. Nandi
