9 people lost their lives in an accident after 14 seater matatu and a petrol tanker collided head-on along the Kericho-Nakuru highway.

Reports indicate that six died on the spot while three others lost their lives as they were being rushed to hospital.

Other casualties were rushed to Kericho Referral Hospital where they were still recuperating.

Kericho OCPD Justus Kitetu stated that “The accident occurred at around 1745hours on Friday. It involved a 14-seater matatu and a truck which was ferrying gas from Kisumu to Nairobi.”

According to the police boss, the tanker was on the wrong lane when the collision happened.

"It is unfortunate that the truck was descending using a climbing lane when the accident occurred," Kiteu said

The matatu belonging to South Rift Shuttle was heading towards Kericho while the tanker was on its way to Nakuru.

Last month, a lorry collided with a car at Chepseon area along the same highway leaving six people dead.
