Suspected Al-Shabaab militants are reported to have attacked a village in Mandera on Sunday morning.

Reports say that heavily armed men suspected to be from the Militia group raided Hareri Hosle village near Mandera town.

According to a Mandera based journalist, the militants raided a food store in the town and also made away with weapons belonging to two police reservists.

"There was a raid conducted by suspected Al Shabaab militia, they also raided a food store in town and made away with weapons and ammunition from officers stationed in the area," he said.

Voice of Africa journalist Harun Maruf, in a tweet said that Mandera residents had reported heavy gunfire following the morning raid by the militia group.

"Al-Shabaab militants have launched an attack on the village of Xariiro Hoofle (possible I misspelled location), near Mandera town in the early hours of Sunday. Local residents have reported a heavy gunfire. Still trying to get more information about casualties," tweeted Maruf.
