Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, on Friday officially launched investigations against popular singer Charles Njagua Kanyi better known Jaguar following the tragic accident involving his car.
The DPP noted that Jaguar was being probed following allegations that he was covering up for the person who was driving his Range Rover when the accident, which claimed two lives occurred.
“It is alleged that there is cover up as regards the identity of the driver who caused the fatal accident. We note from these media reports that investigations have been commenced by the OCPD Mwea West,” the DPP’s statement read in part.
Keriako added: “I am directed by the DPP to direct you to ensure thorough investigations are conducted and the resultant inquiry file forwarded to his office for perusal and appropriate directions."
Jaguar, who is eying the Starehe Parliamentary seat, came under fire on Thursday following the allegations which angered many.
According to eye witnesses the driver of Jaguar’s car was a lady when the accident happened along the Sagana-Makutano road in Kirinyaga County on Tuesday.
However the musician denied the reports noting that the claims were false.
"It is with grief that I share this post today. As it is now public, I was involved in a car accident. Sadly, lives were lost in the incident. Lets avoid confrontational remarks in consideration to the pain it is causing the bereaved families,” he wrote on Facebook.
Kenyans on social media started a hashtag dubbed #ArrestJaguar following the controversy surrounding the accident.
