Why Babu Owino has been forced to call off demonstrations at the last minute

He was to storm NSSF and Ministry of lands offices

Babu Owino cancels Planned Demonstrations to NSSF and Ministry of lands offices

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has temporarily suspended planned demonstrations by his constituents to National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and Ministry of lands offices.

Owino had threatened to storm NSSF and Ministry of lands offices for delay in releasing title deeds to Embakais East residents who bought land from the government agency 15 years ago.

“DEMONSTRATIONS! DEMONSTRATIONS TOMORROW! I will be leading residents of Embakasi East Constituency in a peaceful demonstration that will begin at the NSSF where we will eject the Chairman General Julius Karangi at 9:30am. From there, we will head to the Ministry of Lands to eject the officials from office. These people are incompetent and are working hand in hand with cartels to frustrate the hard working people of Embakasi East.

"NSSF sold land to residents in my constituency over 15 years ago and have never released their title deeds to them. People took loans and sold assets in order to buy this land only to be scammed by people who are still sitting pretty in Government offices.Tomorrow, we will light a fire under their buttocks and they will learn that you cannot sit on the sweat of honest Kenyans! Comrade Babu Owino,MP, Embakasi East and Leader, Youth For Africa Movement,” reads Owino’s post.

In a quick rejoinder, NSSF explained that they were working hand in hand with the Ministry of Lands in processing required documents for the residents forcing him (Owino) to suspend the planned demos.

Temporary suspension of demonstrations

"My office is in receipt of written communication from the Acting Managing Trustee of the NSSF and the Law Firm acting on behalf of the NSSF in the processing of land titles. This communication reached us today morning at 8:00am.We have received written assurances (attached below) that the NSSF is working with the Ministry of Lands to process the documents for our Embakasi East people as fast as possible.

"I therefore temporarily suspend the planned demonstrations to give them a chance to fulfill their written pledges. I will however still personally go to these offices to get the personal assurances from the Managing Trustee on this issue. Residents of Embakasi East must get what is due to them without fear or favor. Comrade Babu Owino,MP, Embakasi East and Leader, Youth For Africa Movement,” the legislator stated.
