Police in Njoro, Nakuru County on Friday morning found the body of a fifth year Engineering student who has since been identified as David Ongeri.

The body had been badly butchered with what police suspect was a panga found beside the mutilated body. Police reported deep cuts on the face, neck, head and hands.

The murdered student was found by a neighbour who went to check up on him after he failed to show up for various engagements.

Njoro sub-county police boss Mohammed Huka confirmed the incident adding that the body had been taken to Egerton University funeral home.

"It is sad to learn of the death of one of the students killed for no clear reasons," he stated.

Egerton University student leaders call for quick action into murder

Egerton University student leaders led by Henry Mulyungi were shocked at the death and suspected that criminals may have been behind the murder.

"We are requesting police to bring to book criminals behind the murder," he stated.

The murder comes at a time when the wave of student deaths have drastically reduced in the country.
