Daughter of former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale is among those trapped inside the Dusit hotel which was attacked on Tuesday.
The information was confirmed by the politician through his twitter account who pointed out that he was at the scene.
"Am on the scene of the terrorist attack in Chiromo. My daughter is trapped in the building under attack!" he tweeted as Kenyans joined in praying for the safety of those trapped.
The afternoon attack sparked tension countrywide as details developed.
Inspector General of Kenya police issued an update around 8pm saying they had cleared 6 of the 7 floors of hotel in the Nairobi attack.
Alshabaab claim responsibilty of attack
Alshabaab had taken responsibility for the attack, information that was confirmed by the group's spokesperson who was identified as Abdiasis Abu Musab by Reuters.
Statehouse had warned members of the public to avoid sharing videos of the attack at Dusit Hotel carried out by the militia group.
Several of those trapped in the building had shared their locations with the aim of the information reaching the rescuers.
The public were further warned to keep of roads that were used by the medics to access the scene and rush the injured to nearby hospitals.
