The transfer is part of the deal struck between Governor Mike Sonko and the National Government on February 26, 2020.
The transfer comes amid confusion that has rocked the garbage collection unit at City Hall.
48-hour ultimatum

The service was abruptly halted when contracted garbage collectors downed their tools over payment delays.
The situation was worsened by back-and-forth exchanges between the Finance Department and the Environment department.
The operations are expected to be streamlined as the transfer deed takes effect.
