Miguna arrested over his plans to swear in Raila as President

Raila on Sunday insisted that he would still be sworn in as President

Sources indicate that Miguna was stopped along the Mombasa-Malindi Highway at Mtwapa after he was suspected of being involved in a plan to swear in Odinga as President.

He was headed to Kikambala where Odinga was presiding over a strategic meeting bringing together the Coastal People’s Assembly.

Area senator Stewart Madzayo, who confirmed the arrest, stated that the political strategist was flagged off by security officers who included local police and some military officers who ordered him to come out of his car.

“Miguna declined to come out of the vehicle and there was a standoff. As we speak now a crowd has begun gathering and the people are demanding Miguna’s freedom,” Madzayo stated as quoted by The Standard.

Local media on Monday reported its sources indicating that Miguna was released after being detained for about three hours.

Miguna, who is also a self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general, has been vocal in pushing for the NASA leader to be sworn in as President.

Even after NASA postponed the planned parallel inauguration, Miguna has insisted that Odinga must take the oath, and advocated for NRM to be split from NASA in order “to carry out revolutionary operations”.

“Announcement: The NRM wishes to state that it had no role in the "postponement" of the swearing in of The People's President Announcement made by yesterday. That was 's decision. will give a way forward in the next day or so. Please remain calm & focused,” the outspoken lawyer stated.
