In a statement issued by the Ministry of Sports, Kenyan athletes will not be participating in sporting events due to coronavirus outbreak.
"Following the global outbreak of the COVID - 19 viruses, the government has put in place measures to deal with the situation to safeguard the public and the country at large," the statement read.
"In this regard, the Ministry wishes to inform you that there will be no more travel for international events until further notice and notably for the next one (1) month," it added.
Arenas without fans
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa asked the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to postpone their Afcon qualifier ties against Comoros due to covid-19 outbreak.
“Based on the directive issued by the Ministry of Health, we have requested CAF to postpone our match against Comoros,” Mwendwa stated.
Coronavirus has killed 3,556 people while infecting more than 105,000 in 95 countries worldwide.
In sports like basketball, the NBA has reportedly told teams to look into strategies on how to play without fans in the arena amid concerns over the spreading virus.
