24 IEBC officials to be prosecuted days after election

24 IEBC officials are to be charged with electoral offences just days after the polls ended.

Twenty four officials from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) are facing prosecution over cases related to the general election.

The 24 are among 85 individuals who are being charged for election offences. Of the remaining 61,59 of them are Non-IEBC officials whereas 2 are government officers.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko said that they are investigating 70 cases that arose from post-election chaos.

Tobiko said that 17 were caught issuing bribes, 19 failed to perform their official duties and that 10 were found with ballot papers.

1 person was being prosecuted for murder case, three were in the impersonation section while the cases of 20 were not categorised.

This comes a day after Dagoretti North MP-elect Simba Arati on Wednesday stormed Anniversary Towers on claims IEBC officials were doctoring forms 34B.

He claimed the forms from 290 constituencies were being changed by ICT officials before the same are uploaded to the public portal.

The European Union (EU) has also urged the electoral body to make the documents available for public scrutiny.

The commission was on Elections Day forced to replace some of its agents after they were found flouting rules.
