Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said that the team headed by Siaya Senator James Orengo is still looking for a venue for the meeting.

“We will be meeting sometime this afternoon. We are trying to agree on the venue but the meeting is definitely on,” he said.

The 12-member team works closely with another team of experts led by lawyer Dan Ameyo.

The opposition alliance is under pressure to name its candidate from among its four principals, led by Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) Raila Odinga, his Amani National Congress (ANC) counterpart Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula.

Last week, National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze ruffled feathers when he demanded that the coordinating team name Mr Musyoka as the presidential candidate in line with a 2013 memorandum of understanding (MoU) between him and Mr Odinga.

Mr Nyenze warned that Wiper would pull out of the opposition alliance if Mr Musyoka is not named the candidate within seven days, which have since lapsed.

Mr Musyoka has also fought off reports that he is planning to ditch Nasa and go it alone if he is not named the candidate.

However, Dr Khalwale exuded confidence that the opposition alliance is on the verge of naming its candidate.

“We are almost done,” he said.
