Raila forced to convene urgent meeting after new announcement

ODM leader Raila Odinga has been forced to convene a crisis meeting after a major announcement on Thursday.

NASA principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi

This is after NASA technical committee on Thursday announced that it had nominated Odinga as the presidential candidate and Musyoka as his running mate.

The news is said to have caused jitters in the alliance with Mudavadi and Musyoka particularly angry with the recommendations.

The former vice president announced shortly after the news broke that it was only the NASA principals who were allowed to name the flagbearer of the coalition.

Siaya Senator James Orengo, a member of the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) said a report of the NASA technical committee had been shared with the principals.

Orengo stated that the quartet would go for a retreat in Mombasa from April 17-19 where they would make a final decision on the report.

“A further progress report will be made to the Summit before the principals go for a retreat on April 17, 18 and 19. Whatever they decide will then be communicated as the final decision,” the senator stated.

A section of leaders in the affiliate parties also complained that members of the coordinating committee from one of the parties were leaking information to create a perception that their candidate was the best for NASA.

“I am telling them to stop because we believe that our candidate is the most experienced… They should wait until all 12 proposals have been scrutinised,” Lugari MP Ayub Savula warned.
