Mungatana, who has been among those spearheading Jubilee campaigns in the coast region, made the announcement on Wednesday.

The MP’s decision is said to have been influenced by Governor Hussein Dado’s defection from the Wiper Party to Jubilee.

Mungatana had initially announced that he would face the Tana River governor on a Jubilee ticket until things took a new twist.

However, Coast Jubilee officials led by Matano Chengo questioned the timing of his move stating that he lacked confidence.

“It is true he has been our member and we appreciate his efforts. However, everyone must understand that our party is anchored on democracy,” Mr Chengo stated.

On Sunday, Mr Dado and Tana River County Women Representative Halima Ware, announced that they would defend their seats on a Jubilee ticket.

President Uhuru Kenyatta thanked the Governor stating that it had been his desire to work with him.

“It is good that the people of this great county have joined Jubilee… The policy of Jubilee is to bring all Kenyans together, irrespective of their religion or locality,” the President said on Sunday.

The President and his deputy William Ruto have been pitching camp in Mombasa County trying to woo the electorate to vote for Jubilee during the upcoming polls.

The Coast region voted overwhelmingly for the Opposition during the 2013 elections. However, in the recent past, a number of elected leaders have ditched the Opposition for Jubilee.
