Five injured in accident along Nairobi-Mombasa highway

An accident that involved a mini bus along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Friday morning left five people with injured.

Police reports indicated that the accident which occurred at Athi River, Machakos County, was as a result of the driver of the mini-bus trying to avoid a head on collision with a vehicle going in the opposite direction.

Sharma Wario who is the Athi River police boss, confirmed that the vehicle overturned after the driver lost control and veered off the road.

“It happened that the said mini-bus was being driven from Mombasa general direction heading towards Nairobi and upon reaching the location of the accident the driver was obstructed by an oncoming unknown motor vehicle which was overtaking,” stated Wario.

The injured were rushed to Shalom Hospital while the bus was towed to Kyumbi police station.

In December last year, two people died while three sustained injuries after a collision of two lorries at Kapiti area along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

9 people lost their lives while 20 others were injured in August 2018 after a bus burst into flames following a head-on-collision with a lorry at Civicon area near Emali along the Nairobi-Mombasa road.

The section of road in Emali was marked as a black spot following the numerous accidents that have occurred there.
