Mungatana was arrested alongside six other suspects over irregular payments of Sh51.5 million to six private companies by the Kilifi County government.
In a statement, the EACC said investigations revealed that the six private companies did not offer any services or supply any goods to the county government and the Local Service Orders (LSO) used were fake and did not originate from Kilifi County Government.
“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission undertook investigations on reported complaint that Kilifi County Government had fraudulently paid Sh51, 569,775 to six private companies banamely; Daima One Enterprises, Zohali Services Limited, Makegra Supplies Limited, Kilingi Investments Company Limited, Leadership Edge Associated Limited and Johazi Investment Company,” read part of the statement.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) also directed that 21 suspects be arrested and charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property, Uttering false documents and dealing with proceeds of crime.
The detectives are pursuing 14 other suspects.
