A mother and daughter were on Monday evening found dead in a house they shared in Nairobi's Golden Gate Estate in South B.

73-year-old Judith Mwai, who is a former staff member at Treasury and her 47-year-old daughter Catherine Mwai, were found by a relative who had paid them a visit on Monday.

Catherine's body was found on the floor of her bedroom with neck bruises that indicate she might have been strangled to death.

Judith's body was found on her bed with a sisal rope wrapped around her neck and tied to the bed. Blood was also said to be oozing out of her mouth.

Neighbours last saw them on Sunday afternoon

Neighbours told police that they last saw the two, who were the only residents at the house, on Sunday afternoon as they were being dropped off by a black four-wheel-drive car.

Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo told reporters that preliminary investigations had concluded the two had been murdered, however, investigators were yet to establish any leads to a suspect or a motive.

Both women were retirees, Catherine having retired from a local bank.
