IEBC responds to claims of arrested official at Anniversary Towers

The officer had allegedly leaked 'crucial data' to Raila Odinga's team.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Tuesday termed as fake news earlier reports that a senior official was put under office arrest.

Through its Twitter handle, the Commission said that none of its officers was put under “office arrest as earlier claimed by a section of Kenyans.”

Earlier, there were unconfirmed reports that a senior IEBC official leaked raw data related to the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) kits that were used in last week’s repeat polls.

The Commission was responding to a tweet by a one Mr Jeffrey Oduma who put to task the Commission to substantiate the allegations that a senior officer who leaked crucial data to the Raila Odinga led National Super Alliance was subsequently put under office arrest at the Anniversary Towers offices.

“IEBC officials put under office arrest at the anniversary towers after 'someone' intentionally leaks raw data of KIEMS kits to Raila,” Mr Oduma had tweeted earlier.

The new twist comes hours after the Commission allowed full access to the servers that were used to transmit the results for the repeat polls, even as Nasa leader Mr Odinga mulls on his next move.

Meanwhile, IEBC Chief Executive Officer who is on three week leave was on Tuesday sued by the advertising company Transcend Media for allegedly failing to meet the commission’s advertising costs amounting to Sh150 million.
