TV Presenter on the spot after being caught on tape confessing role in Ndindi Nyoro arrest

"I came with these police officers"

Kameme TV Presenter Njogu Njoroge on the spot after being caught on tape confessing role in Ndindi Nyoro arrest

Popular Kikuyu media personality Njogu wa Njoroge has come on the spot after he was caught in a live microphone confessing a role in the arrest of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

Njoroge had hosted a live tv show on Kameme TV where Nyoro was one of the panelists in the debate held at St James Cathedral Church in Murang’a.

Immediately after the show was concluded at around 9pm, the Kiharu MP was escorted out of the conference hall by Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata and handed over to police officers who were waiting outside.

Njoroge’s mic remained active as he went on to narrate to one of his viewers that there was no way Nyoro would save himself from the arrest. He went on to enquire if the police officers had picked everything they needed.

There is no way he can save himself this time. These police officer found me as I was coming here and we came together…(in apparent reference to the officers?) Have you picked everything?” Njoroge was heard in the live mic.

It did not help matters that the TV presenter had asked the audience to remain calm after the show was concluded, as part of the arrangement that had been made to avoid a dramatic confrontation between the officers and the MP’s supporters.

The clip has from last evening gone viral, with a section of Nyoro’s supporters criticizing the Kameme TV presenter for facilitating the MP’s arrest.

A Kameme TV staffer later revealed that the station had negotiated with police officers to allow the live show to conclude after they initially indicated intent to arrest him midway into the show.

State House Secretary of Digital, Innovations and Diaspora Communications, Dennis Itumbi, was one of those who were forced to come to Njoroge’s defense, explaining that there was nothing the presenter could have done to block the arrest.

Good people, I have seen that most of you are blaming Njogu wa Njoroge. Now I have the benefit of knowing a few things that happened tonight and be sure he did many things to ensure Hon. Ndindi Nyoro got on set...including putting an empty seat on set to confuse the security. At the end of the show there is nothing he could do to stop the arrest,” Itumbi said in a statement.

Nyoro was also forced to comment on the matter, clarifying that Njoroge was his friend and was not to blame for the arrest.
