Drunk guard threatens governor with gun

Gun drama involving governor

Health CS Sicily Kariuki speaks with Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos became the unfortunate victim of a drunk guard's impaired judgment during an official visit to a school in his county.

Governor Tolgos had decided to inspect projects at Takwei Primary School, which is located inside a Kenya Forestry Service territory when the guard pulled out a G3 rifle at him.

The inebriated security guard did not recognize the county boss at first and wanted to bar him and his entourage from entering the premises.

"Mnataka nini hapa (what do you want here)?" he asked before brandishing his firearm.

Trigger-happy Hour

The school's head teacher explained to the county officials that it was the norm to hear gunshots from 5 pm everyday.

"As from 5pm we are treated to gun shots. We are almost accustomed to it," Stanley Rutto said.

The gun-wielding officer was subdued by his colleagues after he pointed the gun at the governor and started hurling insults at him.

"We cannot allow this to happen...how can we have security officers living in a school compound especially when they are this drunk," Tolgos questioned.

Cherangany Chebororwo MCA Tich Cheboi told reporters that previous investigations had revealed that most guards posted in the stations are those who have ongoing disciplinary cases.
