Uhuru at Sagana: Programme shows only pro handshake team allowed to speak

List of Speakers at Sagana meeting

President Uhuru Kenyatta with CS James Macharia (Transport)

President Uhuru Kenyatta will be hosting Mt Kenya leaders at the Sagana State Lodge on Friday in an event with exclusive invites only.

Various leaders from the region were invited to the event whose agenda has remained top secret to the rest of the country.

A source contacted by Pulselive.co.ke disclosed who the speakers will be at the event.

A look at the list shows the only pro- handshake leaders were chosen to address the over 3,000 invitees.

The master of ceremony at the event will be former Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe, a key supporter of the handshake.

Polycarp Igathe to speak

Peter Munga, the Secretary General of the Kikuyu Council of Elders (KCE) will be open the event with a word of prayer. KCE has in the recent past urged Deputy President William Ruto to stop early campaigns and support the handshake.

Immediate former Equity Bank Group chair Peter Munga (not the same person as the KCE Secretary General) will speak on behalf of the business community from the region.

Polycarp Igathe who is a businessman, politician and corporate executive, who serves as the Vice President in charge of Sales and Marketing in Vivo Energy Africa will speak for professionals from the region.

Mt Kenya MPs will be represented by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, known as the team leader for the Kieleweke team that is supportive of the handshake and highly critical of Ruto.

The regional Senators will be represented by Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga.

Newly appointed commissioner at the NCIC, Wambui Nyutu will address the congregation on behalf of the young people from Mt Kenya highlighting their challenges.

More speakers

Anne Waiguru who is the Kirinyaga Governor, her Nyeri counterpart Mutahi Kahiga and Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi will speak on behalf of county bosses from the region.

CSs Joe Mucheru (ICT), James Macharia (Transport), Sicily Kariuki (Health) and Margaret Kobia (Public Service) will address the delegates. Mucheru, Macharia, and Kariuki do not have the best relationship with Ruto after the DP reportedly accused them of plotting to murder him alongside other government officials from the region.

Interior PS Karanja Kibicho and his Sports counterpart Kirimi Kaberia will also address the event.

Representatives from Maendeleo ya Wanawake and the Matatus Association from the region will also address the meeting on Friday.

Governor Kiraitu, largely regarded as an elder among elected politcians, will speak last and proceed to invite President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The agenda of the meeting is yet to be disclosed but the line up suggests matters handshake and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report will take centrestage.
