Speaking during a press conference, the elders want the format of IDs changed in order to remove the place of birth and other details revealing one's ethnic background.

As per their proposal, they want the District to be changed to Kenya while the Division to indicate a person’s County of residence.

All other details such as location and sub-location are to be removed. According to the elders, these details were propagating ethnic divisions in the country.

"Those are some of the things we want to lobby because we want to be one nation - Kenya," one of the elders said.

They added: "The association was to be formed in the year 2016 but because we never wanted to branded as political, we waited for the conclusion of the elections."

They went on to declare their support for President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga in their initiative bring unity in the nation.

At the same time, they threw their weight behind Mr Kenyatta's Big 4 agenda stating that they were committed to see development in Kenya.
