Uproar after police linked to raping student gets transfer

On twitter,  women Representative of Busia County Florence Mutua shared a letter of transfer of the officer identified as Joseph Kinyua, from Andugosi police station Kotur patrol base to Maritime Police.

“As a matter of agency, can you kindly confirm how this officer charged with rape is being  transferred even before the case is heard?” asked Mutua.

The letter further states that the officer should report to Maritime OCS upon arrival for further instructions.

The move has elicited uproar among Kenyans who are now questioning the position of Inspector General Joseph Boinnet in the matter.

This however has elicited reactions among Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) condemning Boinnet led body.

Kinyua had been accused of raping and giving her a morning-after pill. The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the incident and assured Kenyans that the matter was under investigation after taking the girl’s DNA.

“The matter was received and investigations are ongoing. The DNA samples have been taken to the government chemist for analysis." said DCI

Independent Police Oversight Authority mandated to hold the officer accountable, on August 27, said it was aware of the allegations and would hold him accountable.
