Matiang'i announces major changes for all secondary schools beginning 2018
The new raft of changes will affect secondary schools countrywide.
Matiang'i said that the Government will provide textbooks for the six core subjects for all Form one students starting in January 2018.
"Each Form One student will be given six textbooks for Maths, English, Kiswahili, Chemistry, Biology and Physics," Matiang'i stated as he opened the exercise of Form one selection at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) on Monday morning.
The exercise which is expected to run throughout the week is being attended by CDEs, KNEC, National school principals,Union reps among other education stakeholders.
Matiangi directed the dissolution of boards of primary and secondary schools that share a compound maintaining that such schools will have one principal and two deputies.
The CS also announced that 19 nationals schools in Nairobi will have day classes for the initial pilot project for the new learning system.
At the same time, Matiang'i announced the reporting dates for those joining Form 1 shall be between 9th -12th of January next year.
According to the CS, all pupils who scored over 400 marks are expected to join national schools while 63 per cent of Form One students will join sub-county schools.
The top candidates are expected to jostle for the slots available in the national schools of Alliance Boys, Alliance Girls, Mang’u High, Maseno, Starehe Boys, Starehe Girls, Nairobi School, Lenana School, Kenya High School, Moi Forces Lanet, Moi Forces Academy, Utumishi Academy, Moi Girls Eldoret, Nakuru Boys, Nakuru Girls, Maryhill Girls, Loreto Limuru and Limuru Girls.
