Matiang'i makes urgent announcement to parents taking Form One students to school

Form 1 Students began reporting to schools on Tuesday.

Acting Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has announced that Form 1 students being enrolled as day scholars will not pay a single coin.

Matiang'i was addressing concerns of fess after the intake of Form 1 students kicked off on Tuesday.The no-nonsense CS, who was supervising the intake at Jamhuri High School in Nairobi, stated that Government had catered the tuition fees for students joining the day wings across the country.

"What does free day secondary education mean, it means that those who have children coming in to the day wing will pay nothing, the government has paid Ksh.22,240 tuition for every student for all our children in schools. Those who are coming as day students will not pay anything,” Dr. Matiang’i said.

However, parents who accompanied their students to schools complained of being charged exorbitant money for lunch.

Boarding Schools that Opened Day Wings

In 2018, the Government announced that they would open day wings to in a bid to achieve 100 percent transition from primary to secondary school.

The Ministry of Education would later release a list of 19 boarding schools that would open day wings in January 2018.

Some of the schools included: Nairobi School, Lenana School, Kenya High School, Starehe Boys Centre, Moi Forces Academy, Pangani Girls High School, Moi Girls Secondary School - Nairobi, Buruburu Girls High and Parklands Arya Girls High School.
