IEBC Commissioners return to work 5 months after resigning

IEBC Commissioners are back!

Commissioners Connie Nkatha and Margaret Mwachanya were reportedly locked up at their office amid protest from IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Paul Kurgat who also resigned did not resume his duties.

This comes two weeks after the High court ruled that the resignation was invalid as they failed to follow the proper procedures when they stepped down.

According to the law, a commissioner resigns from office by notice in writing addressed to the President.

However, the three only announced their resignation during a press conference but never handed their resignation letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

While reading their statement the three commissioners accused of failing to lead the commission.

"For far too long and way too many ties, the Commission Chair has failed to b the steady and stable hand that steers the ship in difficult tides and gives direction when needed.

"Instead, under the leadership, the Commission boardroom has become a venue for peddling misinformation, grounds for brewing mistrust, and a space for scrambling for and chasing individual glory and credit," the commissioners said in a statement.

Chairman Chebukati is on record condemning the trio for not properly resigning and continuing to enjoy their salaries and benefits without performing their duties at IEBC.
