Members of the public, MPs reach out to help Louis Otieno

The plight of former media personality Louis Otieno has touched the hearts of many Kenyans who have expressed willingness to help him stand on his feet again.

Otieno who was once a household name and the best paid TV presenter lost his job and went into depression.

He was also the key suspect following the death of his former lover Caren Chepchumba in what the police suspected was a murder case.

A section of opposition legislators, led by Mbita legislator Millie Odhiambo have pledged to support him acquire hearing aid devices.

Addressing journalists at Orange House on Friday, the MPs who also included Babu Owino and Otiende Amollo disclosed that they would pool resources and form an initiative to support Otieno.

“Our attention has been brought to the plight of Louis Otieno who was a top media personality in Kenya, and we want to say as concerned Members of Parliament that we are going to support him in whichever little way we can.” Mrs Odhiambo said.

The plight of Otieno who also suffers from acute pancreatitis was brought to focus by his former employer KTN with his family appealing for help to enable him go for specialized treatment to regain the ability to hear.

He has been in and out of hospital owing to his ill health with little support from well-connected and influential friends who failed to come through for him in his hour of need, prompting the family to appeal for support from the public.

This comes a few days after Citizen TVs Swaleh Mdoe made headlines with plans to sell his kidney.
