3 KRA officials arrested in Eldoret as police dismantle drug trafficking ring
The officials were arrested on Friday night in a raid conducted by police and detectives for allegedly attempting to sneak in Mandrax into the country.
The kingpin of the drug trafficking syndicate has also been reportedly arrested in Nairobi.
The drugs were concealed as vitamins are believed to be destined for Kenya.
Initial investigations by the police indicate that the consignments was flown in from Dubai through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and made their way to Eldoret where police officers on high alert singled it out.
The contraband was flashed out on 16 April and was subjected to investigations by multi-agencies.
Samples sent for investigations at the Government Chemist revealed that they were Mandrax and not vitamins as declared.
The actual value of the 80000 pellets is unknown.
The value of the consignment is still unknown with police scheduled to issue an official press address later in the day.
In February, 30 kg of drugs suspected to be heroin were intercepted at JKIA with 3 Kenya Airways staff arrested in the sting operation.
