Police arrest, detain suspect in plot to kill Uhuru, Duale
Suspect to remain in police custody
The suspect who sat his KCSE exams this year allegedly wrote in the KCSE English paper one (functional skills) that he would kill President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The message was discovered by Kenya National Examinations Council officials in Nairobi as they were arranging the papers for marking.
Using the candidate’s registration number, the paper was traced back to the suspect who sat his exams at Elimu Bora Secondary School in Mandera East.
The suspect was apprehended and produced before resident magistrate Duncan Mtai to answer to charges of treason on Friday.
The magistrate directed that the accused should be taken to the county hospital for a mental and age assessment with the case set to be mentioned on Monday.
KCSE candidates arraigned in court
This year has seen a number of KCSE candidates arraigned in court for various crimes.
Top on the list are eight students from Ambira High School who were recorded on camera bragging about cheating in the exams and hurling insults at Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and his Education counterpart Amina Mohamed.
Also caught in the mix are 30 KCSE candidates in Bomet who were arrested after holding an overnight beer and sex party last Friday.
Police have also arrested and arraigned several people in court for crimes relating to leaking of this year’s KCSE examinations.
