According to Mary Wangare (Wanjohi's sister), Njoroge, had threatened her sister several times that he would kill her if she did not agree to marry him.

She said her sister had been rejecting the officer’s marriage proposal and kept telling him she was not ready.

“He kept insisting that he wanted to marry her immediately. This made Anne uncomfortable and she tried avoiding him,” Wangare told the Nation.

“She wanted to continue working so that she could save some money to enable her to join university. She was his girlfriend, but he insisted on marriage. I don’t know why he shot her, but I remember he had assaulted her on three occasions,” Wangare said amid tears.

She said the officer kept telling her sister that he had never loved anyone the way he loved her, and that he was not going to live without her.

On the fateful day, Njoroge shot Wanjohi several times inside a cyber café on Tom Mboya Street following an argument.

The officer then shot himself three times in the chest and left hand.

Witnesses said the officer arrived at the cyber at about 7pm and stayed there for a while as Wanjohi attended to customers.

An argument later ensued between the two after which the officer drew his gun and shot her at close range, killing her on the spot as frightened customers scampered for safety.
