Thika Level 5 Hospital’s Patrick Nyagah confirmed that 16 women and 2 men had been admitted at the facility and were in stable condition following the Friday night incident.
The body of the deceased was taken to General Kago Hospital mortuary.
The explosion which occurred at Thika’s Junglenut factory is believed to have been triggered by an electric fault.
The company’s human resource manager disclosed that Kenya Power staff had been carrying out repairs at the facility when the explosion occurred.
At least 400 people were at the facility at the time of the explosion with the injured rushed to Thika level 5 hospital.
The company is owned by Thika MP Patrick Wainaina.
Well-wishers who heard the loud blast rushed to the site to assist with rescue operations.
