Six legislators conned while trying to buy guns from fake police officer

Police are investigating the matter

Six legislators at the Wajir County Assembly have been conned over Sh100 thousand shillings by a conman who impersonated a police boss.

The legislators, popularly known as MCAs, sent money after a man posing as a police officer called them with the promise of selling them guns at Sh20,000 each.

Wajir County Police Commander Stephen Ng'etich confirmed that the MCAs had formally filed a complained with his office and that investigations were ongoing.

Ng'etich stated that the legislators had informed him that they had received calls from a person impersonating him, with an offer of selling guns to them "due to the rising insecurity in the region".

Ng'etich stated that his officers were investigating the number that called the MCAs and which also received cash sent through mobile money transfer.

It is not clear is the six MCAs will also be investigated for attempting to purchase fire arms through a back door.
