Members of the National Assembly have exposed governors over an alleged practice which ensures Senate committees do not indict them in their reports.

According to the MPs, the governors hold secret meetings with the senators before they present themselves at a Senate committee hearing.

"Before governors appear for grilling, they pass through a certain club where negotiations take place," Nominated Senator David Ole Sankok claimed.

Majority Leader Aden Duale added that the House was yet to receive any report on a governor's liability in a matter yet the Senate has been quick to indict cabinet secretary.

The Garissa Township MP particularly questioned Senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chair Moses Kajwang's leadership of the crucial oversight committee.

"I want to see even one report where the PAC team has indicted a single governor. They have never produced a single report to this effect. Why it is that they have been indicting Cabinet Secretaries and not governors? I’m told that there is a small room where people meet before they come to the committee," he stated.

The accusations came on a day when the Senate summoned Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua over audit queries raised by the Auditor General.

Governor Mutua has, however, claimed that he is not certain he will receive a fair hearing given that Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka has allegedly politicized the matter.
