“Car free days, are effected in cities that have subway/ metro lines/rail lines, bike lanes and bike parks, mass bus transport systems and some have waterways serving the CBD...now look for these transport systems serving Nairobi CBD & tell me this is not a case of mad cow disease,” Chepkut said in a tweet that went viral.
The MP, who previously served as a personal assistant to former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott, was among Kenyans who poured cold water on the proposal to ban cars on Wednesdays and Saturdays as a way of solving traffic jams.
The Law Society of Kenya, through its President Allen Waiyaki, has opposed the prosal saying it was likely to be overturned by the courts.
"The State should have consulted all stakeholders before effecting the directive, which is bound to be challenged in Court by aggrieved parties", Waiyaki said.
