Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Friday failed to name his new deputy governor saying that he had received an urgent letter from the National Super Alliance (NASA)

The letter named a new nominee that the governor was asked to consider for the position.

According to Sonko, the NASA coalition as well as ODM asked him to consider Rahab Wangui, a member of the Wiper party who lost the Nairobi Woman Representative seat to Esther Passaris.

Governor Sonko stated that he had decided to put off his earlier intended message to announce his chosen DG in the spirit of the handshake.

The letter that was issued from ODM party leader Raila Odinga's Capitol Hill offices went on to vouch for Rahab saying that her "wide experience in grassroots mobilization and community engagement" would compliment Sonko's own leadership.

In August, Sonko listed Agnes Kagure, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, Karen Nyamu and Jane Weru as the four he was considering for the position.

Unconfirmed reports had indicated that he was likely to settle for Jane Weru, who is a relative to former President Mwai Kibaki.

The governor stated that he would now conduct consultations with Jubilee party leaders, President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mr Odinga and the residents of Nairobi before settling on his final nominee.
