Father sues national school for suspending daughter over day dreaming

School in trouble

Moi Girls High School students

A parent took Moi Girls High School to court after his daughter was suspended from school for reportedly daydreaming.

Through the petition filed in court, the father stated that he was asked to come and take the student from the school on the basis that the girl was caught up in an indiscipline case.

He noted that upon collecting the child, the school secretary had insisted that the student needed to be taken to Kenyatta National Hospital Youth Center for counselling.

“It was alleged that the minor was daydreaming when she woke up to shouting by fellow students causing her great distress, shock and confusion, compelling her to leave the classroom,” read a part of the court papers.

The school principal however pointed out that the father should instead take her to Amani Counselling Center and Training Institute and a church for more counseling sessions.

School refuses student to sit for exams

The student was withdrawn from the program after the counselor highlighted that the girl was good to go back to school.

The concerned parent insisted that unless the school is stopped from making such decisions, the student would not get a chance to be back in the school in time.

In the affidavit, the parent complained that the school refused his daughter an opportunity to sit for the first term examinations that were scheduled between March to April.
