Police Constable Abel Musati opened fire on Traffic Officer Hillary Korir using his AK-47 rifle while escaping in a 14-seater Nissan Hiace.
The traffic officer had inspected the 14-seater matatu along General Waruinge road and booked it at the Pangani Police Station for not having a TLB clearance certificate. He was escorting the matatu to the police station when his counterpart attacked.
"Along the way, the Driver made a call to whom he claimed was the owner of the vehicle. On arriving at Kariokor Roundabout, PC Abel Musati who was in full police uniform and armed with an AK 47 intercepted the vehicle and pulled his fellow officer out of the vehicle.
"He further ordered the driver to drive off as he fired one round to PC Korir but he missed the shot. Later on, Musati was arrested and disarmed. He was taken into lawful custody pending his arraignment," a statement from the DCI explained.
